coral and starfish bangle

The brief:

My client was very intrigued by the open and close bangle that I make, and it is an excellent choice for someone if you are unsure of their wrist size. The granddaughter was going to study the coral and marine life of the Great Barrier Reef. This gave me the opportunity to study the different types of coral, as they were going to be her focus of study.

My client particularly wanted some starfish to cling to the bangle so to complement this we had a stafish hugging a mound of brain coral as the opening button.

THE DESIGN & MAKE PROCESS

The bangle was made using a variety of handcrafting techniques.

Once the design was agreed, the coral designs were wired and forged into the bangle with a hammer

The opening button was initially handmade in silver with a combination of etching, layering and doming. It was then hand-cast using delft clay.

The starfish are appliquéd to the bangle's surface using the sweat soldering technique.

"Hi Victoria, I gave Maddy her bangle on Sunday and she was thrilled with it, she loved the coral and said starfish were her favourite sea creature and she couldn’t wait to show her Uni friends , so a great success!! Thank you , Noreene"
