A keepsake from found objects

What a great idea. To have some treasured pieces set into silver making a truly personal gift.

Found on family holidays and kept as momentoes these pieces came to mind when Linda was thinking of something that her daughter could take with her on an exciting extended trip to New Zealand.

The found objects were:

A tiny seasnail’s trapdoor and a small piece of seaglass.

A seasnail’s trapdoor is also known as an ‘operculum’ and they can be found on shorelines in many sizes and colours. They tend always to show a snailshell like curl on one side and a domed, sometimes undulating, surface on the other.

THE MAKE

The challenge was to make bespoke settings for the glass and the snail, making sure the collets followed the undulations of the pieces. Then I used a series of little jump rings to connect them so that they would hang well on the chain.

Hi Vicki, Meg loved her necklace! She ended up adding it to a silver necklace her boyfriend got her with a starfish on for while she's travelling and the 3 charms look really nice together.

Said goodbye today ☹️😢 they are flying over the Atlantic now.
